Command & Conquer 3 - December Community Summit
--DAY ONE-- Page 1
Arrival in LA
Well I got up at 5am to get to Manchester airport in England to leave for the Community Summit! My Boss kindly dropped me off at the airport and I was on my way. My first flight was to Ireland where all my US Security checks were done. After they deemed I was not a threat I was let through and onto my flight into Los Angeles which as my security checks were already done in Ireland I was let right through. Well I went about the Airport a bit my first time in the US and I was impressed how big LAX was but was disappointed how small the tower in the middle of the Airport is… in Red Alert 2 it gave me the impression of being much bigger but since when is C&C to scale.

A $20 Cab ride later and I arrived at the Riz Carlton Hotel in Marina Del Ray. I have never stayed in such a luxurious hotel before. A bell boy came to open my door let me out of the cab took all my bags. The women at the desk she knew my name and exactly who I was now that’s service! She welcomed me to the Hotel and gave me my keys while another woman got me a drink of Apple Cider. The staffs were very friendly. Upon entering my room I awoke a sleeping Trojan! Aka Scott from GameReplays. I recognised immediately from his accent that he was an Australian like myself, which it was great to catch up with what was happening back home.

While waiting for our contact I met up with the other Community members in the lobby introduced myself and it was great to meet these people in person for the first time. I talked with Hypnotist from CnCNZ, Hexetic from PlanetCNC, Crimson from RenegadeForums, Cabal from CnC World, Renardin from CnC Reborn, and a very jetlagged Banshee from PPM. And when our contact arrived to pick us up I finally met up with JohnWE from CnC Files in the hallway which it was great to finally meet. Our contact finally arrived half an hour later!



We went out to the Baja Cantina a Mexican Restaurant which had some great food! Our contact and Dave joined us and we had some interesting discussions. One was about the squads in C&C3 where they good or bad, we all had mixed feelings on the subject and we didn’t come to a consensus but we’d find out soon enough. Tiberium was another discussion which is when I talked about some of the exciting Tiberium features in Tiberian Sun Rising which caught JohnWE’s and Hypnotists interest. I also made a point of talking about Cabal which everyone at the table more or less agreed they didn’t want to see Cabal return which Dave from EA argued strongly as well. I agree that Kane’s the villain and shouldn’t be replaced but I do think it’d be nice to see resolution to the Cabal story from Firestorm. But that’s just me as a die hard Tiberian Sun fanatic. We also talked about which C&C was our favourite, mine was clearly Tiberian Sun while a lot of people at my table clearly loved Red Alert 2 more but Hypnotist backed me up on Tiberian Sun thanks guys. I also made a point to ask about Australia and as I figured it's mostly made up of Red Zones and Yellow Zones with a blue zone in Sydney.

After dinner we headed back to our hotel and I promised I’d show JohnWE and Hypnotist the latest build of Tiberian Sun Rising. So I fired it up and demonstrated the GDI side to them showing the base setup and changes we’ve made to Tiberian Sun as TSR is not a direct remake. For example the construction unit for GDI is a Power suit which changes function depending which infantry is inside it. By default it has an Engineer inside which makes it GDI’s Construction Unit, but if you put a Peace Keeper inside *GDI’s Light Infantry* it becomes an Assault Mech or if you put a Jumpjet Trooper inside the Mech will Hover over water and land but it wont fly basically its a lot like the RA2 IFV in ways. GDI’s dynamic defences and what I mean by that is once you build a Component Tower upgrade eg an RPG tower, Vulcan or SAM you can replace it with another turret at any time but you must pay the cost and wait the build time. But the point is if you scout ahead at incoming army’s you can change your defences to suit the situation. Next I demonstrated the realistic scaling in TSR the sizing of infantry is very small, units like the Mammoth Mk2 tower over the battlefield and can crush small structures like Nod Lasers and can also crush Walls. And of course I showcased Tiberium, which not only grows and functions exactly like it did in Tiberian Sun but it also has very nifty Evolution and Mutation features which I’ll talk in-depth about later. For now let’s focus on C&C3 Tiberium Wars.
