Command & Conquer 3: Kanes Wrath - Leipzig Games - Page 1 Convention

As I am sure you are well aware the Leipzig Games Convention was on this week, were the public were able to get the first glances at upcoming games and hardware, luckily for me I was able to go with my University with a few other students. Not going to bore you with in depth flight details but we went up in a Boeing 737 took off from Manchester and then landed at a rather inconvenient stop at Standstead and then we were on our way to Leipzig. Upon arrive at Leipzig we were greeted by sunshine something I don’t see much living in Wales as soon as we were at the hostel we all tried to get to use to this rather poor accommodation. Next day we eventually got to the GIC after a 30 min Tram ride my first impressions of the GIC is it seems out of place you have this huge and I mean huge complex done in a modern style whilst Leipzig still has buildings that look like they have seem better days. The entrance to the GIC is a large and long glass aircraft hanger they had setup one of those bowl things for the new Tony Hawk Game and behind that was a World of Warcraft Card game booth which I am sad to say was full of people the rest of the hanger was used as a food court and as a entrance to the side buildings which housed the gaming booths. The first one I managed to get into was the Ubisoft booth which had security around the entrance to prevent under 18s getting, Yes the entire fair is open to everyone even children. Well anyway Ubisoft were showing off Haze which was a playable Demo and a Presentation with a trailer for Farcry2, First up Haze I managed to get a go on the demo briefly nothing much about the game real stood out to me but the whole helmet thing were if you take off your helmet you see the truth of what is around you but if you leave it on you see a sort of fantasy created to prevent any mental damage from you murdering people. I hope they include a part were a part of your helmet is smashed so you can see the real world though the hole but still see the fantasy world though the rest of the undamaged helmet that would be a good addition to the game. Farcry 2 looks game play wise much like the previous games however I did not stay for very look in the Farcry2 presentation as they were speaking German and without any English Translator my German is not the best, next we wandered to the Warhammer Online Age of Reckoning booth which was made to look like a castle and had numerous PC’s laid out for people to play on the game or sign up from the beta the queue for the game was pretty long so I did not get a chance to play however I did watch some play it with a character I presume was a human he did not last long he died valiantly on a bridge fighting some peasants.

Next booth was the Age of Conan and Kane and Lynch Dead Men went on Age of Conan first and I was trying to tell this German man how to play the game as Age of Conan is pretty different from normal MMORPG as it is meant to be a skill based game however for some reason beyond me they had it set up like playing Capture the Flag which is pretty strange for MMORPGs I believe that’s why people who left that booth were disappointed in the game it was like being thrown I the deep end of a pool covered in pigs blood with a Great white waiting for you, oh and they had chained some girl up in a cage for “entertainment” as well. Next was the Kane Lynch Dead Men Booth this game was set up on 9 Pc’s I also managed to get a go on this game as well, you started off in what I believe was a ground floor of a office with the police out side waiting for you and your gang it soon kicks off with a shoot out with your men hiding behind the pillars in the office shooting the police outside and with the rather silly civilians running straight into the cross fire in their panic to get outside the game however was hindered by the silly mouse sensitivity of the new top of the range Razor mouse was amusing over the top but the best bit of the game is when you die one of your gang runs over to you and sits on your head and gives you some drugs to get you back on your feet but it looks rather wrong overall I will be looking forward to playing this game at a later date. After moving on from Kane and Lynch we went on to what I believe was a whole hall devoted to placed which people could play games in strange or just silly surroundings, first up was a area made to look like a beech complete with sand and a beech volley ball net and then their was a even more amusing area were you can play games in a toilet area I am not kidding people were on toilets playing Xbox’s and PSP’s their was even a bathtub PS2. after that their was another beech section this time without out the sand but a large TV showing upcoming games such Metal Gear Solid 4 and Granturismo 5 they even had a large TV for people to play Singstar this section reminded me of Xfactor meaning they were bad really bad. Stopped off at the pub to play on a jet ski game on the Playstion with the words “This is living” stenciled on the bar hmm I wonder to what it is referring the pub or the games. We were luckily enough to get into the Heavenly Sword booth which also doubled up as the War hawk booth, Warhawk was interesting however battlefield 2 had more realistic damage when a vehicle hits something in Warhawk you can hit trees and even the ground without being destroyed I watch my friend to a loop the loop into the ground and survive. Heavenly Sword looks far better though seems to lack a jump button however some combos make her perform a jump combo attack so perhaps it is their some were, I am looking forward to that game as good PS3 games are had to find at the moment. Whilst my friends queued up for Turok I went in search of the Ea booth concerned that I could miss the C&C presentation.
