What do you guys think of the Epic Units coming in Kanes Wrath?

Do you think Tiberian Sun Rising should have some sort of Epic/Uber unit? *technically GDI already has one the Mammoth Mk2*. As for Nod it could very well be the Cyborg Commando or a new unit possibly. If TSR were to really do some sort of Epic Unit for both sides thou I imagine it would something way more hardcore then even the Mammoth Mk2 on GDI's side of things and Nod ... I cant think of anything heavy that would suit Nod as its just not their style *despite C&C3/KW* I refuse to give Nod a super heavy unit Nod is light armor. Perhaps some sort of Uber Subterrain unit or something that acts as a Land based Banshee Carrier... or could be something BIG using Scrin technology from the Tacitus.

Im just curious on what ppl think of Epic units, are they way unbalanced and dumb? Or do they add an interesting/cool edge? You decide.

Thankyou

I'm still undecided on the Epic Units. Sure they work a certain way on paper, but in practice people generally tend to find ways to use units that weren't intended by the developers. I think we need to experience them firsthand and read the feedback on the EA forums (as contradictory and whiny as it may be) to see what happens when large numbers of people get their hands on them.

A wise move indeed, yes I'm uncertain on them too... we shall see how they play out let Kanes Wrath be the test of their success or doom.

IMO the EU concept doesn´t fit well with TS era. As you mentioned yourself, a heavy assault vehicle isn´t Nod´s style at all. A tank design as EU contradict´s their military doctrine, a crawler can be scaled up only so much before it looks awkward, lighter chassis designs are inappropriate for uber units, air and artillery EUs can make balance a true b*tch. Making the cyborg commando an EU would be a bit odd IMO, sure it was WTFPWNDYA!!1 in TS but it´s still not even close to a heavy vehicle.
The only design that ever seemed appropriate to me is the early Avatar, it is pretty much TS era technology (though you´d probably have to use the somewhat overused "Nod stole GDI walker tech and made their own" excuse) and has this cool atmosphere of a predatory warden that towers above his inferiors. Should feature less armor, better speed and range than the MKII and be able to attack while moving due to the torso and weapon systems not being fixed.

I don´t really like the way the EUs are handled in KW, especially the MARV. Being overly slow but ridiculously armored and armed they seem more like a reincarnation of shoot´em up bosses instead of true additions to strategy. The production via its own high tech warfactory also makes it seem a little as if it was initially planned as T4 but found too powerful for mass producing.
I much more prefer an approach that handles EUs not as the big fat jack-of-all-trades but more as a tactical support unit, meaning reasonable armor (2x - 3x of a standard combat unit at max) but powerful, low ROF attacks with above average range that allow to strategically take out enemy key units. Production should further set them apart from regular units, combining the mothership approach of calling in the unit with the production at the repair pad you had planned earlier seems adequate to me.

Sir, you’re forgetting the brotherhood’s Montauk.

The Montauk isn't even a combat unit. There is no way it could be considered.

Well, CABAL have the Core Defender which is kind of epic. But I still hope for a CABAl faction later on, so let him have it then. On a side note I believe that Nod walker tech in the Avatar comes from the Core Defender and not from GDI.

Epic-units sound quite noobish, because they appear to be like Pokemon monsters for kiddies to play in Kane's Wrath.

Something that fits there style of play. I dunno about GDI but somthin for Nod if you did decide to make them is a Giant mobile stealth gen that produces a steath field about the same size if not a little bigger than the normal stealth gen. This unit can remain cloaked and keep the cloak field up while moving.

Nod could always bring back the CABAL Defender, seeing how almost all of (FS) nod's new units were from CABAL.
