Having seen the discussion about deployment methods for artillery in TSR I decided that I agreed with The_Mastodon and we need a vote.

Feel free to use this thread to discuss the pros and cons of each method.

Happy voting!

So, why do you prefer manual deployment? Whats the benefit with that?

I find it easier to organise defensive and offensive operations with artillery which won't move off by themselves. For instance, I want my artillery to bombard an enemy base, they will only auto attack buildings when set to an aggressive stance. This also means they will chase down opposing units, sometimes across the map. This exposes them to counter-fire as well as moving them from areas I have 'made safe' by putting up AA and other defensive units.

In a defensive scenario units moving out of your protective area can be even more lethal.

Added to this I've always found the auto-deploy in CNC3 somewhat lacking since units tend to auto undeploy when left alone or selected.

What benefits do you find with the automatic deployment?

Yeah, you're right. It adds a bit more micro with manual deploy but that's probably a good thing.
