Make a plane and use an alpha texture map for it. That adds only 2 polys for each ladder section (turret, left, right).

May I see a wireframe of the Mammoth?

See, that's the big advantage of 2D games... the number of polys on the models can be sky-high; it won't affect the game at all :P

Everything on this model is excellent and the polycount is pretty good,however I just remembered what made this mammoth tank look a bit wierd,the 2 under barrels (not sure what the names are) should be slightly sticking out of the boxlike thing that holds them together shouldnt it?

Looks better.
You could add the lights by painting them on the texture.

Yeah it looks much better,cept the bottom barrels,if you scooted the second boxlike object back alittle then you wouldn't have to increase the polycount or anything.

The polycount could also be lowered more if you made the barrels less circular.

I did put head lights on but put them on the very front of the tank
