Forum Rules and Guidelines

On behalf of the CnC Source staff and community, as well as those of our hosted mods, welcome to CnC Source. We hope you enjoy your stay here.

The following is a set of rules that should help everyone have an enjoyable time. Read all of them. Ignorance of the law is no excuse.
Remember, you are a guest here. Participation in the community is a privilege, not a right.

These rules may be changed or amended retroactively at any time without warning. However, in practice we will usually inform everyone with an announcement. It is up to the user to be aware of the current set of rules.

These rules do have a little wiggle room, however, the staff's decisions are the final word. If we as a whole disagree with your actions, then your actions are wrong, so cut it out.

Rules of Registration

  • You must use a valid email address when registering.
If you do not receive your confirmation email, please contact us so we can manually activate your account.

  • You are allowed a single account at any given time.
Registering duplicate accounts or spam accounts is prohibited. Registering a new account to evade a ban will only get you in more trouble. Registering just to advertise is not allowed.
  • In addition, you are not permitted to share your account with anyone else. This is a bannable offense. Keep your password secure.

  • Registration is required only when you want to submit content.
Users that have been inactive for more than a year and/or have a total post count of 0 might have their accounts deleted without prior notice. You are free to re-register your account if you'll use it.

Rules Regarding Content
We, the staff of CnC Source, cannot be held responsible for the content posted by any of our users. The messages of users express only the views of the author of the message.

  • You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this bulletin board to post any material which is knowingly false and/or defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, profane, sexually explicit, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy, or otherwise violative of any law.
  • You may not post any copyrighted material without the permission of the original author. Plagiarism and content theft will not be tolerated.

  • Warez, cracks, NoCDs, trainers, serials, cheats, malicious utilities, illegal torrents, and other illegal content are NOT permitted under any circumstances.
  • Abandonware on the other hand is acceptable. Legal torrents (yes there are legal torrents) are also okay; you better know the difference between legal and illegal.
For example, EA has released the original Command and Conquer and Red Alert for free, officially making them abandonware.

  • Pornography, sexual imagery/videos, excessively violent, gory, or disgusting imagery/videos, otherwise "Not Safe For Work" or generally objectionable content, or links thereto, are strictly forbidden in the majority of cases.
All C&C games are rated T for Teen by the ESRB, so expect that users as young as 13, or occasionally younger, may (and do) visit these forums, sometimes from school, work, or family computers. Keep that in mind.

  • We don't approve of hotlinking or leeching other sites' bandwidth. Be nice and upload images to Imageshack, Photobucket, or use the forum attachment system.
  • Try to avoid posting lots of huge images that might stretch the forum layout, or images with large file sizes when using attachments.
You might want to consider using thumbnails or links for large images. If a thread is to be image-based with lots of images (pic threads, screenshot threads, etc.), you might want to include a 56K warning in the title, even if it is quaint on a gaming forum.

Rules Regarding Behavior
Above all, the most important rule is to use common sense when posting.
If you wouldn't say it to someone's face, don't say it here. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Don't forget there is a real person behind every post.

  • Stay on-topic.
  • No spamming, no worthless or low-content posts like "+1" or "lol" that don't add to discussion, no pointless topics like "I love lamp" that belong in the garbage, no spamming to increase your post count, no commercial advertisement, and no double-posting when you can avoid it (when the Edit button is available).

  • Please do not "bump" "necro" or post in topics that have been inactive for several months, unless meaningful relevant discussion will result.
  • Don't bump topics that are older than one year. Period. Unless it is a sticky. Sticky topics can be bumped at any time.

  • Read the sticky topics.
Sticky topics often have important information in them such as rules or FAQ. Read or skim over them first before asking questions.

  • Some swearing is okay. Just don't let it get out of hand. We'd prefer if you kept it to a minimum.
  • Racial slurs, hate speech, hate-mongering, etc. against specific races/ethnicities/religions/sexual orientations is not okay and is a bannable offense.

  • Flaming is not tolerated and you will be warned.
Flaming is defined as abusive/inflammatory comments, personal attacks, insults, excessive yelling or swearing, etc. directed at an individual or group.
  • Do not harass other users of this forum.
This includes harassment via the Private Messaging system and may include harassment outside of this site and forum under certain circumstances.

  • Respect people's private lives.
Do not post other users' personal information such as phone numbers without their explicit permission. Do not go snooping around other users' personal lives, especially not for malicious intentions.

  • If a controversial topic (politics, religion, abortion, etc.) comes up, don't try to keep it civil; you will remain civil within these topics or you will be reprimanded.

  • If you are going to discuss spoilers, please warn other users in the topic title and/or use the BBCode Spoiler tags.

  • Try to use sane formatting, grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Keep leetspeak to a minimum please.
  • The previous rule does not give you permission to be a Grammar Nazi or to mock users who do not speak English as a first language. They're doing the best they can.

  • Do not make a public topic such as "To ." Use the PM system.

Resolving Conflicts

  • If you believe an action by a moderator or other staff member is in error, or that an abuse of power has occurred, DO NOT throw a fit, especially not in public. Take it up in private with the staff member in question in a calm and civilized manner. If the results are unsatisfactory, contact another staff member, senior staff member, or an administrator.
But remember, there was probably a good reason for their action, and the staff are the authorities here.

  • If you find a post offensive or in violation of our rules you can notify us with the Report button located next to every post.
  • If you are having problems with another user such as harassment, don't hesitate to contact a moderator or staff member.

  • Show respect for the moderators and the staff.
They are here to keep this place safe, sane, and secure. They're doing this on their free time and without pay. Don't backtalk to them or give them any sass. If they ask you to do something, then do it. Do not intentionally act up or annoy them.

  • Repeated or excessive violation of forum rules will result in consequences for the user in question, such as but not limited to: warning, post/topic deletion, suspension, or banning.

  • These rules also apply to signatures, avatars, users' profiles, the Gallery, Download Database, bug Tracker, Calendar, Blogs, Wiki, and Pages. Anything the public can see.
Don't know what the public can see? Log out and look around.

  • Uploaded avatars from your computer must be no larger than 128 KB and no larger than 128x128 pixels.
The following file types are allowed: gif, jpeg, jpg, png.
  • Keep your signatures within a "reasonable size." People are here to read posts, not scroll past ridiculously long signatures.

  • Crazy catchall rule: Do not attempt to intentionally circumvent any of the previous rules via use of loopholes.
If you do, well you're not as clever as you think you are, because we hold the ban-stick, not you.
