In the early days of Nod's armament and rise to power, Nod commanders determined that they quickly needed to take out GDI patrols while being protected against small-arms fire. They determined an armored tank was needed to accomplish this task. However, many of the worlds tank manufacturers were either aligned with GDI or were raided as a pre-emptive measure to not only ensure GDI's armor supremacy, but also choke off supplies to to the world's renegade arms dealers and terrorists. Nod commanders tasked the engineering corps to retrofit one of their lighter vehicles for the job.
Intel suggests Nod insurgents in Japan located an abandoned bunker containing the 70mm cannon design for pre-GWWII artillery. The blueprints were immediately sent to Nod's engineers, whom found a way to stably mount a modified APDS variant of the cannon on the chassis of a M2 IFV bought from arms dealers. In order to compensate for the additional weight, Nod engineers added several turbo-chargers to increase the horsepower of the water-cooled diesel engine and converted the floatation vents on the front into air-ducts for the chargers. This combination of new armament and improved engines meant that the chassis could no longer adequately transport infantry. Addtionally with a GDI-initiated global embargo on rockets, Nod commanders have decided against using the light tank's TOW launcher in favor of arming individual rocket soldiers.
The light tank gained a sharp notoriety amongst GDI patrols in the buffer regions. The tank's adequate armament wreaked havoc on ill-equipped patrols, and its speed allowed it to retreat before GDI reinforcements were able to locate and target them. Toe-to-toe the Light Tank cannot compete with GDI's Medium Tank, but lower production costs allow them outnumber and overwhelm GDI's tank divisions.

The Light Tank was painstakingly modeled by Ric, our resident polygonal guru, and given its gritty paint job by Lazy6Pyro, the same immensely-talented fellow that penned this article.
